Merzouga with children: which three-day desert tour should you book?

Updated October 14, 2026 · 5 min read

A camel caravan with a guide crossing Sahara sand dunes in evening light

For families who have set aside three days to reach Merzouga: the 3-Day Merzouga and Sahara Desert Tour at €116.16, 4.9 out of 5 from 24,157 reviews. It is the only one to name both camel rides, at sunset and at sunrise, along with kasbahs and nomadic life. Cheaper is the 3-Day Merzouga Desert Experience with Camel and Meals at €96, with Ait Benhaddou, Tinghir oasis and Erg Chebbi; the Merzouga 3-Day Desert Safari with Food at €98.22 puts meals in the title. None of the three descriptions states a minimum age.

Three days means two long travel days

Between Marrakesh and the Erg Chebbi dunes lie the Atlas Mountains and several oases. The €96 tour lists its stops most precisely: Ait Benhaddou, Tinghir oasis, the Atlas, the dunes. The €116.16 tour leans on kasbahs and nomadic life, the €98.22 safari on the Bedouin camp and a night “under the stars”. How many hours per day you sit in the vehicle, none of the three says. For children that is the most important number, and only the operator can give it.

Camp and camel ride: the questions for parents

All three spend a night in the desert: in a camp on the €116.16 tour, in a Bedouin camp on the €98.22 safari, and “sleep in the Sahara” on the €96 tour. Whether the tent has beds, blankets and a private bathroom is in none of the descriptions, nor is whether children may ride a camel or how long the ride lasts. A sunrise ride means an early start. If your child copes badly with long drives, a desert day at Agafay is the easier alternative: Agafay with kids, compared in Agafay or Merzouga. Prices and camp options for the three-day tours are in Merzouga in three days.

Our recommendation

We would take the €116.16 tour: the highest rating (4.9 out of 5) from the most reviews, with both camel rides named. For comparison, the safari costs €98.22 and the third tour €96. The latter is the choice if budget counts and the named stops are enough for you. Book only once minimum age, sleeping arrangements and driving times are confirmed in writing.
