Buggy or Quad Bike in Marrakesh: The Seat Changes Everything, and the Price Triples
Updated October 1, 2026 · 9 min read
One rule decides between the two: the buggy seats two and is billed per seat, the quad bike is one machine per person. If there are two of you and riding side by side appeals to you more, take the Palm Grove and Desert Buggy excursion: €38.59 per person, three hours, 4.9 out of 5 for 3,196 reviews — but a lone traveller pays for two seats there. If everyone wants to drive, if you’re travelling alone, or if budget matters, the Quad Bike Tour to Palm Oasis and Jbilat Desert costs €11.88 for three hours, 4.8 out of 5 for 13,975 reviews. Same pick-up, same tracks, same mint tea; between €12.21 and €38.59 there isn’t just a threefold difference, there’s one extra seat.

The seat explains almost everything else.
Five buggy and quad trips, side by side
| Offer | Duration | From | Rating | For whom |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Quad: Palm Oasis and Jbilat Desert | 3 hours | €11.88 | 4.8 out of 5 (13,975 reviews) | solo travellers, families with children aged 4 and up |
| Quad: Dunes of the Palmeraie with Tea | 3 hours | €11.78 | 4.8 out of 5 (7,114 reviews) | adults who each want their own machine |
| Buggy: Palm Grove and Desert | 3 hours | €37.71 | 4.9 out of 5 (3,196 reviews) | couples |
| Buggy ZFORCE in the Palmeraie | 3 hours | €33.26 | 4.8 out of 5 (798 reviews) | couples, and teens 16 and up at the wheel |
| Buggy 1000cc: Palm Oasis and Jbilat | 3 hours | €30.75 | 4.7 out of 5 (906 reviews) | small groups |
The buggy seats two, and that’s a billing rule
None of the buggy offers include one machine per person at the listed price. The Palm Grove and Desert Buggy excursion, the most-reviewed of the buggy trips with 3,196 reviews and 4.9 out of 5, states it in its included features: “1 buggy for 2 people. The price is per person. If your group has an odd number of people, you must pay for an extra seat to drive alone.”
The Marrakech Buggy Palmeraie and Desert trip, the one whose booking page works out the case for odd-numbered groups, €30.75 and 4.9 out of 5, even gives the worked example on its booking page: “if there are 3 of you, you must book 4 places to get 2 buggies.” The 1000cc Buggy Tour in Palm Oasis and Jbilat Desert, €30.75, says the same thing differently: “buggies are shared between 2 people; to ride alone, book 2 participants.”
The practical consequence: a lone traveller who wants to drive pays twice. At €38.59 a seat, the Palm Grove and Desert Buggy excursion costs them €77.18. A couple, on the other hand, pays the listed price and ends up side by side under the roll cage, sharing a single steering wheel.

The quad bike is one machine per person
With the quad bike, the logic is reversed. The Quad Bike Tour to Palm Oasis and Jbilat Desert shows €11.88 for three hours, 13,975 reviews and 4.8 out of 5, and specifies that two people can share a quad bike if they’ve booked two places — sharing is an option, not a requirement. The Dunes of the Palmeraie Quad Bike Ride with Tea, €11.78 and 7,114 reviews, spells it out in black and white: “one quad bike per adult booked.”
The other quad bikes sit in the same range: €13.85 for the Quad activity in the Palmeraie with Tea break and €22 for the Marrakech Quad Bike Experience: Desert and Palmeraie. Buggies start at €32, but the six most-reviewed buggy outings — not counting the dinner-show packages — sit between €30.75 and €38.59, and the private formats climb fast: €77.28 for the 2-Hour Buggy Adventure through the Palm Grove of Marrakech, €136 for the Half-Day Agafay Rock Desert Buggy Tour — both of these last two figures are shown for a group of two, not per participant.

The ages aren’t the same, and that’s where it counts
It’s the difference families discover too late.
| Offer | What the booking page says |
|---|---|
| Quad: Palm Oasis and Jbilat | Under 13: rides behind an adult. Not suitable for under 4s. Child rate available. No licence required |
| Quad: Dunes of the Palmeraie | One quad bike per adult booked. Under 16: never alone, with a parent or a guide. No licence required |
| Buggy ZFORCE in the Palmeraie | From age 16. Under-16s are accepted as passengers next to an adult |
| Buggy: Half-Day at the Agafay Rock Desert | Drivers: minimum age 18. Under-18s may only take part as passengers |
| Buggy Palmeraie and Desert | Aged 16 to 20: a valid driving licence and ID card or passport are required to drive |
In other words, an eight-year-old can ride behind an adult on the Quad Bike Tour to Palm Oasis and Jbilat Desert, while none of the buggy pages let a minor take the wheel. And if you’re 19, the Marrakech Buggy Palmeraie and Desert trip will ask for a licence that the quad bike never requires.
Ages and conditions vary from one operator to another, even within the same category: we’ve gathered them for every thrill activity in our guide to minimum ages in Marrakesh.
How many minutes actually behind the wheel
Three hours out never means three hours of driving, in either case.
The Quad Bike Tour to Palm Oasis and Jbilat Desert page details 2 hours on the quad bike out of a 3-hour programme, transfers and tea break included. The Dunes of the Palmeraie ride states 1.5 to 2 hours of driving for 2.5 to 3 hours in total, and warns that the duration varies with group size. The 1000cc buggy tour shows 1.5 hours on site for a 3-hour trip, and the Palm Grove and Desert Buggy excursion shows two hours of buggy driving for three hours. The ratio is comparable, so that isn’t where the price gap is justified.
Two 1000cc buggy pages, Marrakech Buggy Palmeraie and Desert and the 1000cc Buggy Tour in Palm Oasis and Jbilat Desert, specify that speed is capped at 60 km/h for safety reasons. Several travellers mention it in their reviews too: you ride in a line behind the guide, and the pace is kept steady no matter how much you’d like to open the throttle. If you’re after free speed, neither option will give it to you.
Groups, meanwhile, run smaller on the buggy side: a maximum of 10 participants for the 1000cc Buggy Tour and Marrakech Buggy Palmeraie and Desert, 6 for the Half-Day Agafay Rock Desert Buggy Tour.
Who this is a bad idea for
The “not suitable for” lists run longer on the buggy side, and they’re worth reading before you pay. The Palm Grove and Desert Buggy excursion’s booking page rules out children under 2, pregnant women, people with back problems, people with reduced mobility, those recently operated on, and people over 70. The 1000cc buggy tour covers under-2s, pregnant women and over-70s. The Half-Day Agafay Rock Desert Buggy Tour rules out pregnant women, back problems and drivers under 18.
The two quad bike pages explicitly rule out only pregnant women — which doesn’t mean the rest carries no risk, only that they haven’t written it down. If you have a history of back or neck problems, the question applies to both machines: talk it over with your doctor before you book.
Finally, the listed equipment varies from page to page: the Palm Oasis quad tour and the Dunes of the Palmeraie ride include a helmet and goggles, Marrakech Buggy Palmeraie and Desert a helmet and gloves, the Half-Day Agafay Rock Desert Buggy Tour describes a helmet, goggles, a balaclava and a waterproof jacket if needed, while the Palm Grove and Desert Buggy excursion and the ZFORCE Buggy Adventure mention only a “scarf and goggles.” If a helmet matters to you, ask before booking.
Our recommendation
Take the buggy if there are two of you and riding side by side appeals to you more than riding separately, if the roll cage and seatbelts reassure you, or if one of you doesn’t want to drive at all: the Palm Grove and Desert Buggy excursion at €37.71 is the most-reviewed of the buggy trips. It’s the only one of the two options where a non-driving passenger genuinely has a place — and the wrong choice for a lone traveller, who will pay €77.18.
For most travellers, it’s the quad bike: take the Quad Bike Tour to Palm Oasis and Jbilat Desert at €11.88 if everyone wants to drive, if you’re travelling alone, if you’re a family with a child under 13 to seat behind an adult, or simply if budget matters: at €11.88 against €38.59, the difference covers a good part of dinner afterwards. It isn’t suitable for under-4s, and sharing a quad there is only possible if you book two participants.
If you want the clearest rule in writing, the Dunes of the Palmeraie Quad Bike Ride with Tea at €11.78 spells out one quad bike per adult booked in black and white — but it keeps under-16s riding behind an adult.
And if you’re still torn over the setting rather than the vehicle, we’ve compared elsewhere three hours in the palm grove versus a whole evening in Agafay — the Agafay Dinner Show, Quad, or Buggy, at €47.76 for five hours, even lets you choose between quad bike and buggy within the same dinner-show package. All the trips are gathered on our quad biking in Marrakesh page.
