Ouarzazate and Aït Ben Haddou in a day: what the price doesn't include
Updated September 16, 2026 · 5 min read
The Aït Ben Haddou kasbah is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has served as a film set for decades. That’s what you’re booking for. But what you’re buying is an outing of 11 hours to a full day, most of which is spent on the Tizi n’Tichka road, with several stops billed as extras.
On 16 September 2026 we read the booking pages for the Ouarzazate excursions in our inventory. Two offers dominate, they differ by less than a euro, and they don’t run the same day.
Close to six hours in the vehicle, either way
The most-reviewed offer is the Ouarzazate and Aït Ben Haddou excursion, reference 59397: €21.79 in our records, 11,312 reviews, 4.7 out of 5, 11 hours to a day.
Its published itinerary strings together an hour on the road, a 15-minute stop at Toufliht, 15 minutes of viewpoints at the Tizi n’Tichka, 80 minutes on the road, 80 minutes at the Atlas Studios, 20 minutes on the road, two hours at Aït Ben Haddou with lunch, and then three hours straight back.
The second, the guided excursion 806343, costs €20.56 — €0.77 more — for 6,093 reviews and 4.8 out of 5, and states 12 hours. It gives two hours 30 to Aït Ben Haddou with a guided visit and lunch, adds the Taourirt Kasbah as a 30-minute option, and splits the drive back with two stops at the same café.
Either way, time spent in the vehicle runs to around six hours. That’s the figure the title never gives, and it’s the one that decides whether the day suits you.
“Extra charges”: three words worth reading twice
On the 59397 itinerary, three stages carry the note “extra charges”: the Toufliht stop, the 80 minutes at the Atlas Studios, and the two hours at Aït Ben Haddou with lunch. The list of what’s included, by contrast, fits in four lines: air-conditioned vehicle, professional driver, visit to the Aït Ben Haddou kasbah, and a guide inside the kasbah.
In other words, the headline price buys transport and a guide inside the site, not admission to the film studios or your meal. That doesn’t make the offer expensive — €21.01 for a full day in an air-conditioned minibus is still modest — but it does mean the day’s real budget is decided on the spot, in dirhams, and you should bring cash.
Ask about admission costs before you set off, and decide in the minibus whether the studios interest you. On the 806343 offer, travellers note, in the review summary the platform displays, that they’d have liked clearer guidance on the studio options and the cost of lunch. That’s exactly the question to put to the guide in the morning.
What the page says about mobility, and what it doesn’t
The 59397 offer states that it’s not recommended for people with limited mobility for the visit to the Aït Ben Haddou kasbah. The 806343 offer, for its part, states that it’s not suitable for wheelchair users.
Take these sentences for what they are: the operator’s description of the terrain, not a rule. The site sits on high ground, and part of the route is on foot. If walking is a concern for you, the right move is to ask before paying how far the vehicle gets, and what can be seen without climbing up.
None of the pages we read publish a minimum age for these excursions. So we’re not inventing one: if a limit exists, it’s on the booking page of the chosen offer or comes from the operator directly. The child rate, for its part, only appears once you’ve picked a date.
The pass, the studios, the kasbah: three different things
The Tizi n’Tichka is given as 2,260 metres on the 59397 page, with a photo stop. The Atlas Studios are visited in Ouarzazate. The Aït Ben Haddou kasbah is somewhere else again. A day that covers all three gives each only a short slot.
If your reason for travelling is film, check that your offer actually goes into the studios rather than stopping outside. If it’s the kasbah, choose the offer that gives it the most time: two hours 30 on 806343 against two hours on 59397. And if it’s the scenery, know that most of it is seen through a window.
The six offers in this category in our inventory start at €17.96 for a median of €22.78 and 19,109 reviews combined. The gap between the cheapest and the most expensive is a few euros; the programme, though, varies far more than the price. For two adults on 59397, the base works out at €42.02 before admission and lunch.
When a day isn’t enough
With young children, 12 hours of driving there and back for two hours of sightseeing is a poor trade, and I’d rather go for the Ouzoud Falls or a closer valley. If the south genuinely appeals to you, the inventory holds two-day packages to Zagora that include Aït Ben Haddou, from €48.72: the same road, but split by a night, and an arrival in the desert instead of a U-turn. The other packages are in our Ait Ben Haddou day trips, and the longer tours in our Sahara desert tours.
