Hot-Air Balloon for Couples and Families: The Conditions You Read Too Late

Updated October 1, 2026 · 6 min read

Two people in a hot-air balloon basket at sunrise, with a breakfast tray in front of them

Among the four balloon offers compared here, the balloon activity with Berber breakfast and certificate run by Marrakech By Air states its conditions in the most detail: a 110 kg maximum weight, an ID document, heart conditions, an age limit and a height limit for children — from €12.65 with 4.8 stars from 16,378 reviews. If you need more leeway on weight, look at the sunrise hot-air balloon flight with Berber breakfast: 140 kg, from €6.25. The cheapest way up is the balloon flight, Berber breakfast and certificate from €6, but there the limit is 100 kg.

Booking a hot-air balloon flight isn’t like booking a dinner reservation. The operator sells a place in a basket, and that place comes with conditions it rarely publishes in large print: a maximum weight per person, health exclusions, sometimes an ID document, and precise rules about the meeting point. For a couple or a family, it’s these lines that decide whether the morning goes ahead, not the average rating.

This guide compares four balloon offers on GetYourGuide, among them the three most-reviewed. Here’s what their booking pages say, offer by offer. For age limits, we have a separate guide: quad, balloon and camel from what age.

Maximum weight is a flight condition, and it varies by nearly double

It’s the condition most often discovered too late, and the three figures aren’t the same.

The first two pages specify what to do if you’re over the limit: contact the operator directly — on the cheapest of the four after booking, to arrange whatever needs arranging, on the balloon activity by Marrakech By Air in advance. So it isn’t necessarily a refusal, but it is something to sort out before the day of the flight, and preferably in writing.

Don’t assume one offer’s limit applies to the next. Between 100 kg and 140 kg, the gap changes the answer for some travellers, and that’s exactly the kind of detail a price comparison makes disappear.

What the pages explicitly exclude

What the pages list under “not suitable for”:

  • Pregnant women: on the balloon ride at €78.50, on the cheapest of the four and on the sunrise flight.
  • People with heart problems: on the balloon activity by Marrakech By Air and on the sunrise flight.
  • Wheelchair users: on the sunrise flight.
  • Children below a certain age or height: on the balloon ride at €78.50 and on the balloon activity by Marrakech By Air.

These are the operators’ own statements, not medical advice, and they don’t carry over to other situations. An exclusion listed on a page says nothing about your particular case: if pregnancy, a treatment or a recent operation is a factor, talk it through with your doctor or pharmacist first and with the operator after that — in that order.

Note also what these lists don’t say. None of the four pages promise a flight suited to someone with reduced mobility, and none describe the height of the basket’s rim or how to climb into it. If that could be an issue for you, ask before you pay rather than hoping for a solution on the ground, in the dark.

An ID document may be required

The page for the balloon activity by Marrakech By Air states that a valid ID document may be requested and that participation can be refused without it. It adds that the operator isn’t responsible for personal belongings during the excursion.

This is something to sort out the evening before, along with your clothes: one ID document per adult, no unnecessary luggage in the basket. For a couple travelling with a single bag, that’s a minute of organising; for a family in a rush at five in the morning, it’s the difference between leaving and arguing.

The pickup point is locked before the flight

On the balloon ride at €78.50, the page states that changes to the pickup point aren’t allowed within 24 hours of the activity. If you’re changing riads, arriving from another city the day before, or aren’t sure of the address when you book, sort this out early.

On the sunrise flight, pickup begins an hour and a half before the first flight of the morning, and that ninety minutes covers the journey to the launch site, a tea or coffee, preparing the balloon and registering passenger details. In other words, work out your wake-up time from that point, not from the time shown on the thumbnail.

Check availability for the sunrise hot-air balloon flight

All four offers advertise free cancellation up to 24 hours before, with a full refund. That protects your side of the booking. The other way round, a hot-air balloon flight depends on the weather: ask what happens if it’s the operator who cancels, and avoid scheduling the flight for the last morning before you fly home.

What a couple really pays, what a family pays

The price shown is per person. For two adults, €12.49 becomes €24.98, €18.15 becomes €36.30 and €78.50 becomes €157. For a family of four, multiply by four, then check whether a child rate exists: it only appears after you’ve chosen a date.

GetYourGuide also lists packages explicitly presented as more comfortable or enhanced — a comfort flight at €125.49, a flight with a camel ride at €129.54, another with video at €126.49. These titles describe additional inclusions, not a private basket: if you’re hoping to fly as just the two of you, that’s a question for the operator, because none of the four pages promise it.

Our recommendation

For most couples and families, the balloon activity with Berber breakfast and certificate run by Marrakech By Air is the best choice: from €12.65 the second cheapest of the four, a 110 kg maximum weight, and the clearest statement of its own conditions. If you weigh more, check the sunrise hot-air balloon flight with Berber breakfast with 140 kg from €6.25 — although it explicitly excludes wheelchair users. On the smallest budget, the balloon flight, Berber breakfast and certificate from €6 remains, with 100 kg the tightest limit. The balloon ride with Berber breakfast and certificate at €65 is the most expensive of the four, and its page does not say what the premium over the other three buys: ask that before booking.

I wouldn’t book a hot-air balloon flight for an anniversary or a marriage proposal without writing to the operator first: a shared basket, an unpredictable landing and weather-dependent timing are a guaranteed way to spoil the moment. I also wouldn’t book it for the last morning of a stay. And with young children, I’d read the age and height limits first, then honestly work out the wake-up call: flight and duration details are in our guide actual balloon flight duration, and the other offers are on our page hot-air balloon in Marrakesh.
